Post-apocalyptic Acupuncture Practice Opportunities
Wow. Almost nobody saw it coming. We thought it was a sure thing; the outcome was a foregone conclusion. And yet, when it hit, it caught nearly everyone by surprise, resulting in shock, fear, uncertainty, even outrage.
Who even suspected we’d end up here?
No, I’m not talking about the election—yet. But I easily could be, couldn’t I? The scenario does have a certain familiar ring.
Actually, I was talking about the Great Recession of 2007-2009. Most of us remember those days, and the terrible fear, uncertainty, and paralysis that gripped the economy. In that business environment, I spoke with a lot of scared practitioners. Many practices suffered. Some failed.
But some prospered.
Even in those difficult circumstances, some practitioners recognized the acupuncture practice opportunities hiding behind the problems, and took proactive steps to actually grow their practices.
I learned some valuable lessons from those practitioners, and from those hard times. I summarized it back then with the words “hide” and “seek.” When circumstances hit and demand change, do we hide from what’s happening, or do we seek new acupuncture practice opportunities to adapt and prosper? One is reactive and one is proactive. The approach makes ALL the difference.
Hide or seek. That’s what determines who wins and who doesn’t.
So now, let’s talk about that election.
I don’t think any of us were prepared for the outcome. I’ve watched the shock, disbelief, fear, even despair that have gripped so many in the wake of such an unexpected upset. As I’ve watched and pondered, two things have become clear to me:
First, our nation needs healing. After an ugly campaign and shocking result, your patients and potential patients need you more now than ever before. This isn’t a time to shrink in fear; this is a time to step up, be the hero, get to work, and show what you’re made of. Your skills matter. Your gifts will make the difference. You can, literally, save lives.
And second, things will change. Economics, politics, society, healthcare, policies—it’s all bound to change very soon. You can hide, or you can seek. Change always brings opportunity, and, just like those practices who prospered during the recession, this can be YOUR time to shine.
So my post-election message is simply this: Take heart. The world needs you now more than ever before. Step up and be the hero you are. NOW is the time to move boldly and fearlessly forward because YOU create your circumstances and your success. Even if you’re not sure what steps to take, fate favors those who take action. It’s time to seek. There are acupuncture practice opportunities RIGHT NOW!
You don’t have to do it alone. Through it all, I want you to know we’re here to help. We’ve weathered worse, and we found, back in 2008, that those who prospered most were those who recognized the time was ripe to invest in their practices and themselves.

Thank-you so much for your offer Dr. Larsen. I feel I am already doing all I can do given my circumstances, and I need to have patience. However, there may be things I could do that I don’t see. I am hesitant to talk to anyone by phone, because of a hearing disability and language barrier, but it is very comforting to know that there is someone out there that I could turn to. Thank-you!!
