In my early years as an acupuncturist, I used to strive for the one-and-done treatments. “That one magical treatment that changed everything for the patient.” You’ve heard those stories before.

Perhaps you have even experienced a few treatments like that in the past. I have. I’ve put a few needles in someone and stopped their acid reflux, shifted a headache, calmed someone with anxiety, relieved the pain of a hemorrhoid, and even lowered someone’s blood pressure.
If those types of treatments worked longterm—over and over again—we would ALL be very successful acupuncturists.
The truth is that one-and-done treatments can
make a slight change in the body, but they don’t last.

My SECRET to Success
First: Think like an Acupuncturist
That sounds simple, right?
I’m not talking about the TCM theory that you learned in school, and I’m not not referring to all the fancy tools you use in your clinic either. (Don’t get me wrong. I love the tools.)
Here’s the truth: Everything that I do in the treatment room is based on understanding how energy flows through the body via the acupuncture pathways. It doesn’t matter what tool I am using: needles, electroacupuncture, laser, ion pumping cords, microcurrent, or the magic that comes out of the tip of my finger—the base theory on how I use those tools is what is important.
Acupuncture Channel Theory
Once you understand Acupuncture Channel Theory, new neural pathways open in your brain and everything that you have ever learned begins to make sense at a whole new level.
The theory is simple, yet deep. Energy flows through the body by way of acupuncture pathways. When energy is flowing freely, our bodies have the divine capacity to heal. When it isn’t flowing well, we develop symptoms. Symptoms are a message that we need to work on energy flow.
You can spend your entire life digging deeper into the acupuncture pathways. Once you begin, it’s addicting. Everything changes,

My favorite part of a new patient consultation experience is watching the patient’s eyes light up when they hear me explain Acupuncture Channel Theory. Suddenly their great big pile of seemingly unrelated symptoms begin to make sense. The light bulb of HOPE shines in their eyes. Sometimes they cry.

You can apply this theory to any CEU course that interests you. Use all the tools you love, treat the body, treat the ear, treat the feet, use four needles, or use 20, do a front treatment, do a back treatment. You can even use your finger (which I do quite often)! It’s up to YOU.
