One of the most common challenges AcuGraph practitioners face is how to explain graph results to patients in a way that makes sense—especially when the readings don’t always match symptoms.
Patients might ask:
- “Why does my graph show imbalances if I feel fine?”
- “My pain is on the right side, but my graph says the imbalance is on the left—why?”
- “If my graph is green, why do I still have symptoms?”
- “Does this mean I have a serious health issue?”
These are valid concerns, and the way you respond can shape the patient’s confidence in their treatment. The good news? A simple, clear explanation can turn confusion into trust—and help your patients stay committed to their acupuncture care.

The AcuGraph Patient Explanation Script
Step 1: Brief Overview of AcuGraph
🗣️ “Hi [Patient’s Name], today I’m using AcuGraph, a tool that helps us assess the energy/qi/electrical flow in your meridians. Think of it as a ‘check engine light’ for your body—it shows us where things are balanced and where we might need to adjust to help you feel your best.”
Step 2: Explaining the Graph Results
If there are excesses or deficiencies:
🗣️ “Here’s what I see on your graph. Some meridians have more energy/qi/circulation than ideal (these are in green or excess), and some are running a little low (in blue or deficient). The goal isn’t just to treat symptoms—it’s to help your body return to balance so everything works more efficiently.”
If there are splits or blockages:
🗣️ “You also have a couple of splits or blockages, meaning one side of the body has a different energy/qi/blood flow level than the other. This can show up as pain, stiffness, or tension, and it tells us exactly where we need to focus treatment.”
Step 3: Connecting the Graph to Symptoms
🗣️ “The best part is, this gives us a clear roadmap for your treatment. For example, if you’ve been feeling [insert common symptom patient has mentioned], I can see how it’s connected to the imbalances here. By addressing these, we’re not just providing relief—we’re actually working on the root cause.”
Step 4: Treatment Plan & Reassessment
🗣️ “We’ll use acupuncture, herbs, or lifestyle changes to help rebalance these areas, and over time, we’ll track your progress with follow-up scans. The goal is to see more stability and balance in your energy/qi/body function over time, which translates to better health for you!”
Step 5: Encouraging Patient Engagement
🗣️ “If you have any questions about your graph, I’d love to answer them! I want to make sure you feel confident about your treatment and understand how this fits into your overall wellness plan.”

Common Patient Questions & How to Answer Them
💬 1. What exactly is AcuGraph measuring?
✅ “AcuGraph measures the electrical conductivity at specific acupuncture points along your meridians. This gives us a picture of how well your body’s energy/qi/circulation is flowing. If there are imbalances, it can show us areas that may need support to function optimally.”
💬 2. Is this like a blood test or medical scan?
✅ “No, AcuGraph doesn’t diagnose medical conditions like a blood test or MRI. It’s a tool that helps us assess patterns in your body’s energy/qi/nervous system function so we can fine-tune your acupuncture treatment and wellness plan.”
💬 3. What do the colors on my graph mean?
✅ “The colors show whether a meridian has too much, too little, or balanced energy/qi/flow. Green means balanced, blue means low, and red means high. White or split colors show imbalances between the left and right sides of the body. Our goal is to bring everything into better balance over time.”
💬 4. Why is one side of my body different from the other?
✅ “It’s completely normal for one side to be a little different! This can happen due to posture, stress, past injuries, or even how you use your body day to day. When we see a big difference, though, it can indicate areas that need more support.”
💬 5. I feel fine—why does my graph show imbalances?
✅ “Great question! Sometimes imbalances show up before symptoms appear. Think of it like getting a dental check-up—you might not feel a cavity yet, but your dentist can see it forming. The graph helps us catch patterns early so we can keep you feeling great.”
💬 6. Can I fix this myself?
✅ “You can definitely support your progress with lifestyle changes like stress management, hydration, movement, and good nutrition. But acupuncture is one of the best ways to rebalance your energy/qi/nervous system and keep things flowing properly.”
💬 7. How long will it take to fix my imbalances?
✅ “It depends on how long the imbalances have been there and how your body responds. Some people see changes quickly, while others need more time. Regular acupuncture, plus simple at-home adjustments, can speed up the process.”
💬 8. Will my graph change after treatment?
✅ “Yes! Most people see shifts in their graph over time as we bring things into balance. That’s why we do follow-up scans—to track your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed.”
💬 9. Does this mean my organs aren’t working properly?
✅ “Not necessarily! The graph measures meridian function, not organ function. If something shows up as out of balance, it means there’s a functional issue with the energy/qi/circulation in that meridian, not necessarily a disease or disorder.”
💬 10. Can AcuGraph diagnose my health condition?
✅ “AcuGraph isn’t a diagnostic tool like a lab test, but it helps us see patterns that might be contributing to your symptoms. We use it alongside your health history and symptoms to create a treatment plan that best supports you.”

Final Thoughts
Using AcuGraph in your clinic is a powerful way to educate and engage patients, but how you explain the results makes all the difference. A confident, clear explanation helps patients understand the value of their treatment, keeping them motivated to continue care.
